My bike is on level four of a car park deck. Can you actually get up there?
Yes. The van goes wherever the height clearance allows, and on the decks that is nearly everywhere. What we need from you is the level, the zone and the entrance you drove in through, because the same building looks identical from three different ramps. Stay with the bike if you can and we will come to the bay.
The yard my bike is in shuts at five. Can you get there before it locks up?
Tell us the closing time at the start of the call and we will be honest about whether it is achievable. If it is not, the better plan is usually first thing the next morning, with someone rostered to open the gate. We would rather arrange a time that works than turn up to a locked yard and a bike we cannot reach.
The steering lock has jammed with the key in it. What can be done?
Steering locks jam for a few reasons: a worn barrel, a bent shaft, or the bars being forced while the lock was engaged. We work out which it is before touching anything, then free the mechanism, repair the barrel or replace the lock and key it to match the ignition. All of it happens beside the bike, and the machine stays where it is throughout.
How long does a lost key job normally take once you arrive?
It depends on the model and whether there is an immobiliser involved. A straightforward mechanical key is quick. A bike that needs a blade cut from the lock and a transponder programmed takes longer, and a proximity system longer again. We will give you a realistic window on the phone once we know the make, model and year, rather than a number that sounds good.
Is there a callout fee on top of the work?
There is one figure, and you hear it before we move. We confirm a price on the phone before we travel, covering the trip and the work described, so nothing is added once we are standing next to the bike. If what we find on arrival is different from what was described, we stop and talk it through with you first.
