What We Get Called Out For in Oakleigh East
Oakleigh East is a working suburb rather than a destination, and the jobs reflect that: people heading to class, to a shift or to weekend sport. Four situations dominate.
Student Bikes Near Huntingdale Road
A lot of small bikes and scooters around the Huntingdale Road end belong to students renting for a year or two, often with one key and no paperwork in the country. That is workable. We take the details off the bike itself rather than a file somewhere, cut a blade to match the lock and program the chip in the driveway.
Ferntree Gully Road Yards
The northern edge of the suburb carries workshops, trade suppliers and fenced yards, and staff bikes tend to be parked inside them rather than on the street. Gates and security cameras are no obstacle as long as someone can let us through. Ring ahead, tell us the business name and roughly where the bike sits, and we will do the rest on the concrete.
Sport Mornings at Reg Harris Reserve
Reg Harris Reserve fills early on training and match days, and the car park along Ferntree Gully Road empties in a rush afterwards. Keys go missing in gear bags and on the grass more often than anyone admits. Rather than hunting for an hour, call from where the bike is chained. We come to the reserve and cut a new one there.
Courts, Cul-de-sacs and Unit Drives
Streets like State Street and Dover Street run into courts and shared driveways where a bike is often parked down the side of a unit, past three other cars. There is nothing hard about that for us, but it does mean parking on the street and walking the gear in. Give us the unit number and where the bike sits and it goes smoothly.

Courts, Gated Yards and Nature Strip Parking
Oakleigh East is straightforward to drive in. There are few clearways, most streets have room to stop and the courts are quiet enough to work in without holding anyone up. The complications here are usually about permission rather than parking: a locked factory gate, a body corporate driveway or a landlord’s garage that nobody in the house has the key for.
Sort that out before we leave rather than after we arrive. On the phone, give us the street number or the business name, say who will be there to open a gate, and mention whether the bike is on a nature strip, in a carport or inside a shed. Everything is then done at the bike, with no need for it to be moved.
Courts and dead ends
Half the suburb runs off short courts. A street number matters more here than a landmark, because the bowls at the end all look identical from the road.
Gated business yards
For jobs on Ferntree Gully Road we need someone rostered on to open up. Tell us the business name and the gate we should pull up at.
Unit blocks and townhouses
Shared driveways behind Dover Street are common. Let us know the unit number, any key-operated gate and whether the bike is under a carport or out in the open.
Reserve car parks
At Reg Harris Reserve and the Princes Highway Reserve we work in the car park itself. Give us the entrance you used and stay near the bike.
Worth knowing: Have the registration certificate in front of you when you ring. Make, model and year decide the blanks, the software and the time the job takes.

Oakleigh East Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs
I am a student and the only key to my scooter is gone. Do I need documents?
We need proof that the bike is yours, which usually means registration papers, an insurance document or something linking your name to the plate. What we do not need is a birth certificate or a local licence. Have the paperwork ready when we pull up in the driveway, and once that is clear we cut and program the key on the spot.
Can you get to a bike parked inside a locked business yard on Ferntree Gully Road?
Yes, provided somebody with keys is there to let us in. We do not need the bike rolled out to the footpath or moved anywhere else, and working on a concrete slab under cover is easier than working in the rain. Give us the business name, the gate to use and a contact who will be on site when we arrive.
There is no key at all, not even a broken one. Can a key still be made?
In most cases, yes. The information we need is in the bike’s own locks, so an original is helpful but not essential. We read the ignition or another lock on the machine, cut a blade to match and then program the transponder against the immobiliser. It takes longer than copying an existing key, and we will tell you roughly how much longer before we start.
The seat lock on my moped has jammed and the fuel cap will not open either. Do you do those?
We do. Seat locks, fuel cap locks and helmet locks are part of the same job for us, not an afterthought, and on scooters and mopeds they seize far more often than the ignition does. We can free them, repair them or replace them beside the bike, and where possible key the new lock so it matches the ignition key you already carry.
Does the bike need to be somewhere particular for you to work on it?
It needs to be somewhere we can stand beside it safely, and that is about the whole requirement. A driveway, a court kerb, a car park bay, a shed with the door open or a yard behind a gate all work fine. Michael carries the equipment to the machine, so a bike with no key never has to be pushed or trailered anywhere.
