Motorcycle Locksmith Prahran
Between the market, the Chapel Street strip and streets of narrow terraces, Prahran keeps a lot of bikes in tight spaces. Ostan Locksmiths brings the workshop to them. Every job in 3181 happens where the machine is standing: keys cut straight from the lock when the originals are gone, spares made, transponders coded and ignition barrels repaired or replaced.

Why Prahran Riders Ring Us
Prahran runs hard from Saturday morning at the market through to Sunday morning on Chapel Street, and the callouts follow that pattern. Four situations account for most of them.
Market Mornings at Cato Street
Saturday at Prahran Market is scooter territory, because a scooter parks where a car cannot. It is also where keys end up in a shopping bag, on a stall counter or gone entirely. We come to the Cato Street bays or wherever you have squeezed in, cut a working key from the lock and code the chip, without the scooter moving.
Greville Street Late
Greville Street and the lanes behind it keep going long after the shops shut, and a pocket key is easy to lose in that. If yours has gone, do not start pushing the bike anywhere. Ring us, stay with it, and we will come to that kerb, cut a replacement from the lock and get the immobiliser accepting it before you head off.
Terrace Rear Lanes
The terraces off Malvern Road and Williams Road were built without garages, so bikes end up in a rear lane, a side gate or a bricked side return barely wider than the handlebars. We work in whatever space exists and carry the gear in on foot. Unlock the gate before we get there and nothing about the tight access slows the job down.
Kitchen and Delivery Bikes
High Street and Commercial Road are full of kitchens, and the delivery bikes out the back are working machines. When one will not start mid-service, that is money stopping. Tell us you are on shift when you call, give us the rear lane or the loading bay, and we will be direct about when we can get to Prahran and what can be fixed there.

How Our Prahran Callout Works
Three steps, and the bike never leaves the spot it is in.
1. Call and describe
Call 0410 380 354 and tell us the bike, the problem and where in Prahran it is parked. We confirm a price before we travel.
2. We come to Prahran
We travel to the bike wherever it sits in Prahran — kerbside, car park, laneway or driveway. Nothing needs towing.
3. Ride away
We check ID and proof of ownership, cut or program the key or repair the lock, then test it before we leave.
Rear Lanes, Clearways and the Market Car Park
Prahran was laid out long before anyone owned a motorbike, which is why so much of it is rear lanes, dead ends and streets where two cars cannot pass. Add clearways on the main roads at peak and a market car park that fills before nine on a Saturday, and the trip to your bike needs a little thought. The work itself is unaffected, because it all happens beside the machine.
So be specific on the phone. A number and street is ideal, but the lane name, the shop you are parked behind or the level of the car park all do the job. If the bike is behind a gate, in a shared undercroft or in a private car park with a boom, tell us before we leave so somebody is ready to open it when we arrive.
Market and Cato Street
Prahran Square and the market bays are straightforward for us. Tell us the level or the row and we will walk in with the equipment.
Blue-stone rear lanes
Half the terraces here open onto a rear lane. Give us the lane name plus the house it belongs to and we will not go past you.
Peak-hour clearways
Chapel Street and High Street go clearway at peak. If the bike sits in one, we will plan the visit around the restriction rather than risk it.
Nothing needs moving
The bike stays exactly where you left it. We arrive with cutting and coding equipment in the van and do the whole job in that spot.
Worth knowing: Check the make, model and year on the registration papers before you ring. Those three details decide which blanks and programming gear are loaded.
Not sure we can reach your bike?
Describe the spot and we will tell you straight away. We work Prahran every week and very little surprises us. Call 0410 380 354.

Prahran Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs
The scooter is in the market car park and the key is gone. Can you come in?
Yes. Car park levels are no obstacle as long as we know which one and roughly where you are parked. We walk in with the gear, take the code from the scooter’s own lock, cut a blade and program the chip if it has an immobiliser. You then ride out normally. It is worth calling before closing time so the level is still open.
My ignition turns but the steering lock will not release. Is that a locksmith job?
Usually yes, and it is common on bikes that live outside. The steering lock is a separate mechanism from the ignition on many models, and it seizes with grit and moisture or gets damaged in a knock. We can strip and free it at the kerb in a lot of cases, or fit a replacement unit and match it to your key so you are still carrying one key.
Do I need to be there while you work?
Someone does, yes. We need proof the bike is yours before we cut anything, which means the registration papers and photo identification in the same name, and we need access to the machine itself. If you cannot be there, a partner or housemate with the paperwork and your say-so works. That check protects you more than it protects us.
Is it worth getting a spare cut while the original still works?
It is much easier and calmer than the alternative. With a working key in hand we can copy the blade and clone or program a second transponder beside the bike, wherever it is parked in Prahran. Compare that to a lost-key job, where we are decoding the lock from scratch. Most riders get the spare done at home and keep it somewhere that is not their jacket.
Which parts of Prahran do you actually cover?
All of it, plus the suburbs on every side. The postcode runs from Punt Road across to Williams Road and down to Dandenong Road, and we work the whole area without a travel boundary drawn through the middle of it. Windsor shares the same postcode and is covered identically, and Armadale, Toorak and South Yarra are all normal territory for us.
