Motorcycle Locksmith Clifton Hill
Clifton Hill 3068 is a small grid of terraces between Queens Parade, Alexandra Parade and the creek, and nearly every bike in it is parked at a permit kerb or down a bluestone lane. Ostan Locksmiths comes to those kerbs and lanes. We cut lost keys from the lock on site, program transponders, make spares and repair ignition barrels and steering locks.
- Queens Parade, Gold Street and the streets down to Merri Creek
- Commuter bikes left near Clifton Hill Station all day
- Bikes, scooters and mopeds only, never cars or houses

Motorcycle key cutting and programming equipment comes to the bike at the confirmed Australian service location.
Key cutting, transponder programming, replacement keys and ignition lock repairs are handled at the bike.
Before cutting or programming any key, Michael checks identification and proof of ownership.
Where Clifton Hill Riders Get Stuck
The suburb is compact, steep in places and hemmed in by two of Melbourne’s busiest roads. These four situations make up most of the Clifton Hill work we take.
Left at the Station All Day
Clifton Hill Station is a junction, and plenty of riders leave the bike near Ramsden Street or along the Hoddle Street edge in the morning and take the train the rest of the way in. The problem surfaces at six in the evening, in the dark, with the key somewhere in the city. We come to that kerb and cut a new one from the bike's own lock.
Queens Parade on a Friday Night
Queens Parade keeps its old pubs and a run of small bars and restaurants, and the bikes outside them are on a clearway kerb by morning. If a key disappears over dinner, the sensible move is to leave the bike where it is and ring us rather than pushing it home up the hill. We work at the kerb, so the bike does not have to spend the night on the strip.
Bluestone Lanes Behind the Terraces
Behind the rows on Spensley, Michael and Noone Street run bluestone lanes that most vehicles cannot fit down, and that is where a good number of local bikes are kept. None of that is a problem. We park on the nearest street and walk in with the key machine and the programming gear, then work on the bike where it stands.
Ignitions Damaged Overnight
Bikes parked near the Alexandra Parade and Hoddle Street corner get more passing attention than the ones tucked in the middle of the grid, and we are called out to ignition barrels that have been forced, steering locks jammed and keys snapped off in a damaged lock. We replace or repair the barrel at the kerb and cut keys to suit whatever ends up fitted.

How Our Clifton Hill Callout Works
Three steps, and the bike never leaves the spot it is in.
1. Call and describe
Call 0410 380 354 and tell us the bike, the problem and where in Clifton Hill it is parked. We confirm a price before we travel.
2. We come to Clifton Hill
We travel to the bike wherever it sits in Clifton Hill — kerbside, car park, laneway or driveway. Nothing needs towing.
3. Ride away
We check ID and proof of ownership, cut or program the key or repair the lock, then test it before we leave.
Clearways, Permit Streets and the Hill Itself
Two main roads box Clifton Hill in. Alexandra Parade and Hoddle Street both run clearways at peak times, and Queens Parade is metered outside the shops with clearway lanes at peak, so a bike parked on any of them may need to be dealt with before the restrictions bite. The residential grid inside is resident permit parking almost end to end. Tell us which of those you are on and we will plan around it.
The other thing worth saying on the phone is how the bike is stored. Terrace fronts, bluestone lanes, shared basements in the newer blocks near Queens Parade and open car parks by the station all need a slightly different approach. A street number is the easiest, but the corner you are on, the shop you are outside or the park gate nearby will do just as well.
Clearway kerbs
On Alexandra Parade and Hoddle Street the kerb lane clears at peak. Say so on the phone and we will work out the timing with you.
Permit streets
Inside the grid nearly every street is resident permit parking. We do the work in the parking lane beside the bike and leave the kerb clear.
Lanes we walk into
Where a bluestone lane is too narrow for the van, we carry the gear in. You do not need to move the bike out to the street for us.
Beside the parks
For a bike near Darling Gardens or Quarries Park, give us the entrance you are standing at. Parks carry no street numbers and circling wastes time.
Worth knowing: Have the make, model and year in front of you from the registration papers. That is what decides which key blanks and programming equipment we load before leaving.
Not sure we can reach your bike?

Clifton Hill Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs
I parked on Queens Parade and my key is gone. Do I need to move the bike?
No, and please do not try. Leave it where it is and call us with the shop or corner you are outside. We come to that kerb, read the lock on the bike, cut a key to match and program the transponder if the model uses one. If the spot is a clearway in the morning, tell us and we will factor that in.
The bike has been sitting near the station since this morning. Can you come after work?
Yes. The phone is answered from 7am to 10pm, seven days, which covers both ends of a commute. Ring when you get back to the bike, give us the cross street and what has happened, and we will tell you honestly how soon we can be there. Nothing about the job needs daylight or a workshop, so an evening callout is routine.
Mine is a keyless bike with a proximity fob. Is there anything you can do at the roadside?
Often, yes. Systems like Kawasaki KIPASS, BMW Keyless Ride and Ducati Hands-Free are proximity fobs, and the bikes that use them carry a separate mechanical emergency blade for the ignition or seat. That blade can usually be cut from the lock on site. What happens with the fob itself depends on the model, so give us the exact bike and year and we will tell you straight.
Someone had a go at my ignition overnight. Can that be fixed where the bike sits?
Usually. A forced ignition barrel, a jammed steering lock or a blade snapped off inside the lock are all roadside jobs, and we carry replacement barrels for common models. Describe the damage on the phone, including anything hanging loose or bent, and we confirm a price on the phone before we travel. If a part has to be ordered we will say so.
Do you also work the streets over the border in Collingwood and Abbotsford?
Yes. Clifton Hill, Collingwood and Abbotsford sit within a couple of kilometres of each other and we treat them as one run, along with Fitzroy and Carlton North. The service does not change with the street sign: we come to the bike, work at the kerb or in the lane, and handle keys, programming and ignition repairs on the spot.
