Where Airport West Riders Get Stuck
Airport West is a suburb of big car parks, deep driveways and shift work, and our callouts here reflect that. These four situations account for most of the bikes we reach.
Westfield Car Park Levels
Keys disappear between the shops and the bike bay more often than anywhere else in Airport West. If yours has gone somewhere inside Westfield, stay with the bike rather than walking laps of the centre. We come into the car park, read the lock, cut a fresh key on the spot and code the transponder if the model carries one, then you ride out the same exit you came in.
Driveways and Rear Carports
Most homes here still have a long concrete drive and a carport or shed out the back, which is where the bike lives between rides. That suits us. There is room to set up beside it, nothing has to be pushed onto the street, and the work stays out of the weather. Tell us whether the bike sits behind a gate or a roller door and we will plan for it.
Shift Work at Essendon Fields
Plenty of Airport West riders commute a few minutes east to the freight sheds, hangars and offices at Essendon Fields, or to the DFO across the road. A key that snaps or an ignition that will not turn at the end of a shift leaves you stuck in a staff bay with no easy way home. Give us the gate number or the building name and we will find you.
Parked at the Tram Terminus
The route 59 terminus on Matthews Avenue collects bikes all day from riders who swap to the tram for the city run. Coming back at six to a machine whose key has vanished somewhere in a work bag makes for a long walk otherwise. We work at that kerb regularly, so leave it where it is, call, and we will bring the blanks and the coding gear to you.

How Our Airport West Callout Works
Three steps, and the bike never leaves the spot it is in.
1. Call and describe
Call 0410 380 354 and tell us the bike, the problem and where in Airport West it is parked. We confirm a price before we travel.
2. We come to Airport West
We travel to the bike wherever it sits in Airport West — kerbside, car park, laneway or driveway. Nothing needs towing.
3. Ride away
We check ID and proof of ownership, cut or program the key or repair the lock, then test it before we leave.
Car Park Decks, Back Gates and Aviator Street Names
Airport West is easy to drive but not always easy to describe. The streets carry aviator names that sound alike over the phone, the shopping centre has several car parks with separate entrances, and half the bikes we see are parked behind a house rather than in front of it. None of that stops the job, since everything happens beside the bike, but the detail you give us decides how quickly we are standing next to it.
A street number is the ideal start. In a centre car park, give us the level, the closest lift or entry and the nearest shop name. At home, say whether the bike is in the carport, down the side or locked in a shed, and who will be there to open it. We also confirm a price on the phone before we travel, so the cost is settled long before we pull up at your kerb.
Shopping centre decks
Bike bays at Westfield sit across more than one deck. Name the level and the nearest entrance so we walk straight to you instead of circling.
Sheds and rear yards
Plenty of bikes here live in a back shed or under a carport. Leave it where it stands and make sure the side gate can be opened for us.
Sound alike street names
Parer, Vaughan, McNamara and the rest run into each other on the phone. Spell the street and add a cross street so we land on the right block.
Retail strip kerbs
Along Louis Street and Matthews Avenue the kerb sits tight to moving traffic. We set up on the footpath side and keep the traffic side of the bay clear.
Worth knowing: Read the make, model and build year straight off the registration papers before you call. Those three details decide which blanks and which programming equipment travel with us.

Airport West Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs
I have lost every key to my bike in Airport West. Can you still make one?
Yes. We take the code from the bike’s own lock, cut a blade to match it on site and then program a transponder chip if your model needs one. Nothing has to be towed and no original key is required for us to start. Tell us the make, model and year when you ring so the right blanks come with us, and we confirm a price on the phone before we travel.
Will you come into the Westfield car park, or does the bike need to be outside?
We come in. Centre car parks are one of our regular working spots and there is no need to move the bike out to the street first. Park it where it is, ring us with the level and the closest entrance, and we bring the tools to that bay. If a security officer wants to know why we are there, we are happy to explain what we are doing on the spot.
My scooter's ignition barrel is worn and the key sticks. Is that fixable at home?
Usually it is. Worn barrels, bent wafers and steering locks that jam are common on scooters that live outdoors all year, and we carry what is needed to strip and repair or replace a barrel in a driveway. If the fault runs deeper than the lock itself we will tell you plainly rather than fitting parts that were never going to fix it.
What hours can I reach you?
The phone is answered from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week. Ring inside those hours and you will speak to Michael, who will tell you honestly when he can be in Airport West and what the job involves. Outside them the phone is simply not answered, so if a key goes missing late at night, secure the bike where it is and call again from seven the next morning.
Do you work on cars as well, since you are already coming out?
No. Ostan Locksmiths works on motorcycles, scooters and mopeds only, and nothing else. That is deliberate: bike locks, immobilisers and ignition assemblies are their own trade, and doing one thing means the right blanks, chips and programming gear are always in the van. For a car, a house or a shop you will need a different locksmith entirely.
