Do you really come out this far west, or only to the inner suburbs?
Keilor East is part of our regular western run. We are a mobile service with no shop for anyone to visit, so travel is simply part of the job rather than an obstacle to it. The bike has not been started since autumn and now the key will not turn. What next?
Stop turning it, because that is how blades snap. Months of standing still let moisture and grit settle into the barrel, and the steering lock often binds under the weight of the bars at the same time. It is a normal spring job for us. We free or replace the barrel beside the bike, cut a fresh key if the old one has been damaged, and check it turns cleanly.
Can you make me a spare so I am not down to a single key?
Yes, and it is far easier while you still have one working key. We cut the spare on site from the bike, then program the chip where the model needs it, so both keys start the machine. Doing it now turns a lost key from an emergency into an inconvenience, and it takes one visit to your driveway rather than any planning at all.
The bike is shut in my garage. Can you still do the job in there?
Yes, provided somebody can open the garage for us. We work on motorcycles, scooters and mopeds only, so we cannot open a house, a shed or a garage door itself, and the bike does not need to be wheeled out to the street either. Open up, point us at the machine, and we cut and program the key exactly where it stands.
My bike uses a proximity fob rather than a normal key. Can you help with that?
Often, though it is a different job to a cut key. Systems such as Kawasaki KIPASS, BMW Keyless Ride and Ducati Hands-Free work from a proximity fob and carry a separate mechanical emergency blade for the steering lock. Tell us the exact model and year when you ring and we will be honest about what can be done at the kerb before anybody travels.
