My bike sat outside for a fortnight and now the key will not turn. What is wrong?
Nine times out of ten it is the barrel rather than the key. Moisture, dust and road grit work into the wafers, they stop lifting cleanly and the key jams halfway. Do not force it, because that is how keys snap off inside. We strip and service the barrel on site, or replace it if it is past saving, and cut a key to suit whatever we end up fitting.
Can you help with a proximity fob system like Kawasaki KIPASS?
Systems such as Kawasaki KIPASS, BMW Keyless Ride and Ducati’s hands free setup use a proximity fob, and they also carry a separate mechanical emergency blade for the seat or steering lock. Those are two different pieces of work, so tell us which one has gone missing. Give us the exact model and year on the phone and we will say honestly what can be done at the roadside and what cannot.
Does someone need to be there while you work?
