Where Coburg Riders Get Stuck
Between a main road that never really flows, a converted prison full of apartments and street after street of solid brick houses, Coburg produces a particular mix of calls.
Sydney Road Kerbside Jobs
Sydney Road is narrow, tram-bound and busy from morning to night, so a bike parked in an angle bay outside the shops is not going anywhere without a key. We come to that bay. Working from the footpath side keeps us clear of the tram line, and the whole job, cutting and coding included, is done without the bike being moved at all.
Pentridge Village Car Parks
The old prison site is apartments, a cinema and a hotel now, with bikes parked in basement bays and along the internal roads behind the bluestone walls. Signal can be poor down there and the levels all look the same, so give us the building name and the level when you call. We come down to the bay and do the work beside the bike.
Errand Stops Around Victoria Mall
Coburg's mall end, the council car parks and the strip of shops behind Sydney Road see a lot of short stops that turn long. A key drops out of a jacket pocket, or the ignition finally refuses to turn on a barrel that has been sticky for months. Either way the bike stays put and we come to it, cutting a new key from the lock right there.
Garage Rebuilds and Weekend Projects
A lot of Coburg's brick houses came with a proper garage, and plenty of them hold a half-finished project bike with a barrel that has been off the bars for a year. If you have lost the key that went with it, or the barrel is beyond cleaning, we come to the garage. Keys can be cut to a loose barrel just as readily as to one still fitted.

How Our Coburg Callout Works
Three steps, and the bike never leaves the spot it is in.
1. Call and describe
Call 0410 380 354 and tell us the bike, the problem and where in Coburg it is parked. We confirm a price before we travel.
2. We come to Coburg
We travel to the bike wherever it sits in Coburg — kerbside, car park, laneway or driveway. Nothing needs towing.
3. Ride away
We check ID and proof of ownership, cut or program the key or repair the lock, then test it before we leave.
Tram Lanes, Hook Turns and Pentridge Levels
Getting a van to a bike in Coburg is mostly a Sydney Road problem. Trams, clearways, delivery vehicles and a kerb lane that vanishes at peak hour all make stopping close a matter of timing rather than luck. It does not affect the job itself, since everything happens beside the bike, but it does mean we would rather know exactly where you are before setting off.
Off the main road it is simpler. Most Coburg houses have a driveway or a garage, and there is usually somewhere legal to stop out the front. At Pentridge and the newer blocks along Bell Street the bike is often underground, so we need the building, the level and the bay, plus a resident to bring us through the boom gate. Sort that out while you are on the phone.
Angle bays on Sydney Road
We work from the kerb side and keep the tram lane free. If you are in an angle bay outside a shop, name the shop and stay with the bike.
Pentridge basements
The old prison precinct has several buildings and levels that look alike. Give us the building name, the level and someone with a fob to meet us.
Brick garages
Older Coburg houses have deep garages with room to work. Open the roller door and clear a path and we will set up right beside the bike.
Creek side reserves
Bikes parked near Coburg Lake or the Merri Creek trail are often a walk from the road. Tell us the nearest car park and we will bring the gear in.
Worth knowing: Have the registration papers to hand when you ring. The exact model and year is what tells us which key blanks and coding equipment to load.
Not sure we can reach your bike?
Describe the spot and we will tell you straight away. We work Coburg every week and very little surprises us. Call 0410 380 354.

Coburg Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs
My bike is parked on Sydney Road and the key is gone. Do I have to move it?
No, and please do not try. We come to where it is parked, work from the footpath side of the bike and take the pattern for the key from the lock itself. A blade is cut on the spot and the transponder programmed if the model uses one. Tell us the shop you are outside and which side of Sydney Road you are on.
Can you get into the Pentridge basement car park?
We can, with a resident to bring us through. The boom gates and lift lobbies there need a fob, so arrange for someone to meet us at the entrance and tell us the building name and the level. Once we are beside the bike everything is the same as a kerbside job: keys cut from the lock, chips programmed and barrels repaired without the bike being moved.
The ignition on my old Suzuki turns but will not release the steering lock. Any fix?
Usually there is. A steering lock that will not release is generally a worn or dirty mechanism, a slightly bent key or a lock that has taken a knock in a drop. We look at all three at the bike, free and lubricate what can be freed, and replace the barrel where the wear has gone too far. Where possible the replacement is keyed to your existing key.
How do I know what the visit will cost before you turn up?
Because we confirm a price on the phone before we travel. To do that we ask for the make, model and year, what sort of key or fob system the bike uses, and whether you still hold a working key. Those answers set the equipment and the time, and once we have agreed a figure it stands. Nothing gets renegotiated in the street.
Do you work on the small Vespas and 50cc mopeds people ride around Coburg?
Yes, they are a solid part of the work. Small-capacity scooters and mopeds have ignition barrels, seat locks, fuel flaps and sometimes an immobiliser chip, and all of it is within what we do at the kerb. Because many are older imports with worn locks, we often end up replacing a barrel rather than just cutting a key. We will tell you which on the phone.
Keys Gone in Coburg?
Sydney Road kerb, Pentridge basement or a garage off Nicholson Street, we bring the workshop to the bike. Call 0410 380 354 and we will sort out the model and the price first.
