Michael works only on motorcycle, scooter, moped and trail-bike locks and keys, rather than cars, homes or commercial premises.
Motorcycle key cutting and programming equipment comes to the bike at the confirmed Australian service location.
Key cutting, transponder programming, replacement keys and ignition lock repairs are handled at the bike.
Before cutting or programming any key, Michael checks identification and proof of ownership.
Where We Get Called in Carlton
Carlton runs on students, kitchens and shift work, and the callouts follow all three. These four patterns account for most of what we see here.
Scooters Behind the Lygon Street Kitchens
Lygon Street runs on scooters. They are parked nose in outside the restaurants, tucked into service lanes behind them and sent on errands between kitchens all evening. A scooter that will not start in the middle of service is a real problem, not a small one. We come to the kerb or the lane it is parked in, cut a key from the lock and get the rider moving again.
Student Bikes and Missing Spares
A good share of Carlton bikes belong to students on their first machine, bought second hand with one key and no history. The key gets lost, snaps, or turns out to be a copy that never had a chip in it. We sort all three beside the bike: a fresh blade cut from the lock, a transponder programmed to the bike, and a spare made while we are there.
Around the Carlton Gardens
Bikes cluster along Rathdowne and Nicholson Street beside the gardens, especially when something is on at the Exhibition Building and the whole block fills. Nothing there has a house number you can quote down the phone. Give us the gate, the corner or the path you are standing on and we will find you, then do the job at the kerb without the bike moving a metre.
Carports Behind the Terraces
Behind the terraces on Drummond, Canning and Palmerston Street there are old carports, side passages and shared yards where bikes are kept out of sight. Getting a vehicle in is often impossible and getting a person in is easy, so we carry the equipment through the gate on foot. Tell us which house the yard belongs to and have someone there to open it.

How Our Carlton Callout Works
Three steps, and the bike never leaves the spot it is in.
1. Call and describe
Call 0410 380 354 and tell us the bike, the problem and where in Carlton it is parked. We confirm a price before we travel.
2. We come to Carlton
We travel to the bike wherever it sits in Carlton — kerbside, car park, laneway or driveway. Nothing needs towing.
3. Ride away
We check ID and proof of ownership, cut or program the key or repair the lock, then test it before we leave.
Permit Bays, Rear Carports and Campus Traffic
Carlton is old, tight and laid out long before anyone thought about parking. Terraces have no driveways, permit signs cover most residential streets, and the parking near the university and the hospitals fills well before nine in the morning. Bikes end up wherever there was a gap, which suits us fine, because we set up next to the bike in the parking lane or the carport, whichever it turned out to be.
What helps most is a precise spot. A street number on Drummond or Canning Street is ideal, but the corner of a garden, a restaurant you are standing outside on Lygon Street or a college building all work just as well. If the bike sits behind a gate, in a rear yard or in a shared basement, say so when you ring so we can arrange who lets us in before setting off.
Permit street bays
Most Carlton bikes sit in resident permit bays. We work from the footpath side and keep out of the traffic lane while we do it.
Gates and rear yards
Back yards, side passages and old carports are common here. Have someone home to open up and we walk the gear in rather than moving the bike.
Campus and hospital bays
Bays around Grattan Street often need a swipe card or a staff escort. Sign us in at the entrance and the rest of the visit is simple.
Lygon Street kerbs
The restaurant strip is busy and parts of it clear at peak. Name the shopfront you are outside and we will park as close as we can.
Worth knowing: Photo ID and proof the bike is yours are needed on every job. Registration papers, a receipt or transfer papers all do the job equally well.

Carlton Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs
My bike is chained to a pole on Lygon Street. Can you work on it there?
Yes. Chained, kerbside and boxed in by parked cars are all normal for Carlton, and the bike does not need to be freed or moved before we start. We set up on the footpath side, out of the traffic lane, and cut the key from the lock where it stands. Give us the nearest shopfront or cross street when you call so we can park close by.
I bought a second hand bike with only one key. Can you make me a spare?
Yes, and it is worth doing before that one key disappears. We cut a spare from your existing key or directly from the lock, then program a transponder chip to the bike if the model has an immobiliser. It all happens beside the bike wherever it is parked, in a permit bay or a rear carport. We check ownership first, so have registration papers ready.
The bike is in a share house rear yard behind a locked gate. Does that work?
It works. Plenty of Carlton bikes live in back yards, side passages and old carports reached through a gate, and we carry the equipment in on foot rather than asking for the bike to be pushed out to the street. Arrange for someone to be home to open the gate, tell us roughly where the bike sits, and we do the whole job in place.
Do you actually program transponder keys, or only cut metal?
Both, and most modern jobs need both. Cutting a blade that turns the lock is only half the work if the bike has an immobiliser, because the engine will not run until the chip in the key is recognised. We carry programming equipment to the bike and do the electronic side beside it. What is possible depends on the model, so give us the year when you call.
What happens if the key snaps off inside the ignition?
Leave the broken piece where it is and call us. Pulling at a snapped blade usually pushes it deeper and can damage the wafers inside the barrel. We extract the broken section beside the bike, check the barrel still works properly, then cut a fresh key from it on the spot. If the barrel has been damaged we repair or replace it rather than leaving you stuck.
