ALONG THE SANDRINGHAM FORESHORE

What Brings Us to Sandringham

Riding here is coastal and seasonal, and the lock problems follow the weather. These are the four situations we are called out for most.

Salt in the Barrel

Air off the bay carries salt further inland than most riders expect, and it settles in wafer springs and lock housings. A barrel that has spent winters within a block of Beach Road can stiffen until the key barely turns, then stop turning at all. We strip, clean and service the lock beside the bike, and fit a fresh barrel when the corrosion has gone too far.

Jetty Road and the Marina

The car parks off Jetty Road fill with boat trailers, sailing crews and riders who have come down for the afternoon. Keys go into a pocket with a wet towel, or into the gravel at Trey Bit Reserve, and stay there. We can reach any of these car parks and work at the bike, so the ride home does not turn into a phone call for a trailer.

Parked Up at the Station

Sandringham Station is the end of the line, and bikes get left in the racks and side streets around it all week while their riders commute. Come back after a long day to a key that has vanished somewhere between here and the city, and the bike is going nowhere. We come to the station precinct and cut a replacement where it stands.

Shift Work at the Hospital

Sandringham Hospital on Bluff Road works long shifts day and night, and plenty of staff ride in because parking suits a bike better than a car. A key lost during a long shift is discovered at the worst possible moment. Ring us with the ward car park or street you are in and we will sort it out where the bike is parked.

How Our Sandringham Callout Works

Three steps, and the bike never leaves the spot it is in.

1. Call and describe

Call 0410 380 354 and tell us the bike, the problem and where in Sandringham it is parked. We confirm a price before we travel.

2. We come to Sandringham

We travel to the bike wherever it sits in Sandringham — kerbside, car park, laneway or driveway. Nothing needs towing.

3. Ride away

We check ID and proof of ownership, cut or program the key or repair the lock, then test it before we leave.

FINDING YOU

Foreshore Car Parks, Metered Bays and Steep Side Streets

Sandringham has two very different halves for us. West of the railway line the streets drop toward the cliffs and the foreshore, with metered bays, gravel car parks and paths that do not carry a street number. East of the line it is ordinary residential parking and driveways. Whichever half you are in, a clear landmark beats a street address every time when you are telling us where to go.

Tell us the car park, the club gate, the ramp or the shop you are standing outside and we will find the bike. Nothing needs to be moved, because the whole job is done at the kerb or in the bay. If the bike is in a garage or behind a body corporate gate, mention that when you ring so we can organise access first.

Foreshore car parks

Jetty Road, the boat ramp and the beach bays are all reachable. Name the car park and we will come straight to it rather than circling the foreshore.

Metered village bays

Time limits along Station Street and Bay Road are tight. Ring as soon as you notice the key is gone and we will plan around them.

Cliff-top side streets

Streets off Beach Road slope hard toward the bay. We park clear and bring the gear down to the bike on foot rather than blocking a narrow kerb.

Garages and lock-ups

Many bikes here live in a garage or a lock-up. Tell us where the bike sits and who can open up before we arrive with the gear.

Worth knowing: Read the make, model and year off the compliance plate or the registration papers. On a coastal bike the plate is sometimes the only legible source left.

Sandringham Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs

Salt air is the usual culprit. It works into the barrel, corrodes the wafers and springs, and turns a smooth lock into one that grabs and eventually seizes. Sandringham bikes parked outside within a block or two of the foreshore see it quickest. We service the barrel on site, and where corrosion has eaten too far we fit and cut a replacement so it turns cleanly again.

Yes. Name the car park, the boat ramp, the yacht club gate or the reserve you are in and that is enough. Jetty Road, the Beach Road bays and the paths above the cliffs are all familiar ground. If you can add the colour and make of the bike, we will spot it as we pull in rather than walking the whole car park.

Not necessarily. Systems like Kawasaki KIPASS, BMW Keyless Ride and Ducati Hands-Free carry a separate mechanical emergency blade, and that blade will open the steering lock or seat even when the fob will not talk to the bike. Tell us the exact make, model and year when you call, and we will explain what can be done on site before we head out.

There is not, and that is by design. Ostan Locksmiths is mobile only, with no premises anywhere in Bayside or elsewhere. Michael drives to wherever the bike is sitting, whether that is a metered bay on Station Street, a driveway off Melrose Street or a gravel car park by the marina. Everything is cut, programmed and fitted at the bike.

It depends on the bike and what the lock needs, so we do not quote blind. Give us the make, model and year, tell us whether any key exists at all, and we confirm a price on the phone before we travel. Nothing starts until you have heard that figure and agreed to it, and it does not change once we are standing at the bike.
