Can you cut a key while my bike is in a timed bay on High Street?
Yes, and it is the usual arrangement here. We work beside the bike in the bay it is already in, keeping clear of passing traffic and the footpath. Most straightforward cut-and-code jobs are done well inside a short-stay limit. If yours looks like it will run longer, we will tell you when we arrive so you can deal with the ticket machine.
My key snapped off in the ignition. Is the barrel ruined?
Not usually. A snapped blade normally comes out with the right extraction tools, and once it is out we can read the lock and cut a fresh key to match. What kills a barrel is what happens next, so avoid poking at it with pliers or superglue. Leave it exactly as it is, call us, and we will deal with the broken piece and the replacement key in one visit.
Is a transponder key different from a plain cut key?
Yes, and most bikes made this century use one. A plain key is purely mechanical: the cuts match the lock and that is the whole story. A transponder key also carries a chip that the immobiliser has to recognise before the engine will run, which means a second step after cutting. Honda’s H.I.S.S. is a good example, since the chip lives inside a conventional cut key.
