Can a Motorcycle Locksmith Come to Me in Melbourne?

Yes. Ostan Locksmiths works mobile only, so a locksmith comes to your motorcycle wherever it has stopped in Melbourne, from a Fitzroy Street kerb to an apartment basement in North Melbourne. Most key cutting, transponder programming and ignition repairs are finished beside the bike, with no tow, no push and no workshop visit.

PICK YOUR SITUATION

Which of These Is You Right Now?

Four situations account for most of the mobile callouts we get across Melbourne. If yours looks like one of these, we already know what to bring before we leave.

Stranded Where You Stopped

You rode somewhere, parked, and now the key is gone, snapped in the barrel or the ignition will not turn. The bike is on a nature strip, in a bike bay or against a kerb and it is not moving. You do not need a street number to get help. A cross street, the shop you are standing outside or the nearest car park entrance is enough for us to find you.

Bike Stuck in a Basement Car Park

Apartment basements around Southbank, North Melbourne and St Kilda Road are one of our most common callouts, because a bike down there cannot be pushed anywhere useful and phone reception is patchy. Tell us the building, the level and whether we need a fob, a boom gate code or someone to meet us at the door. We work in the bay, beside the bike, and the job does not need daylight.

Stuck at Work With No Ride Home

The bike got you to work and now it will not start, or the only key went missing during the shift. A two hour bay, a loading zone, a staff car park or a multi-storey level all work for us. Tell us the level, the bay and the ticketing situation when you call, so we arrive knowing whether to head for a gate, a lift or a street entrance.

At Home, and the Only Key Is Gone

Not every mobile job is an emergency. Plenty of calls come from a driveway, a garage or a shed, where the only key has been lost, a spare needs cutting before it becomes a problem, or a worn ignition barrel is getting harder to turn every week. Same visit, same equipment, less stress, and you pick the time between 7am and 10pm.

What Actually Happens When You Call

Every mobile job runs the same four steps, starting the moment you call 0410 380 354.

1. Call 0410 380 354 and Describe It

Call and tell Michael the make, model and year from the registration papers, where the bike is, what happened and whether any key still exists. He tells you what is likely involved, confirms a price before anyone travels, and tells you the soonest he can get to you.

2. Pin Down the Exact Spot

Give a street number if you have one, or a cross street, a building name, a car park level or the nearest park gate or shopfront. Mention boom gates, fobs, permit zones or road closures now, so the approach is planned before we leave rather than worked out at your kerb.

3. We Arrive and Check Ownership

We travel to the bike carrying the blanks, cutting gear and programming equipment the job needs. Before any key is cut, we check your photo ID and proof the bike is yours: registration in your name, a receipt or transfer papers. That happens on every job, no exceptions.

4. Job Done Beside the Bike

The key is cut and, if the bike runs a transponder immobiliser, programmed to it on site. We test that the bike starts and runs, and that the steering lock, seat lock and fuel cap lock all work, then you ride away from the same spot.

ON-SITE CAPABILITY

What a Roadside Job Can and Cannot Solve

Nearly everything a motorcycle key job needs travels with us: key blanks for common Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW, Ducati, KTM and Vespa profiles, a cutting machine, transponder programming equipment and diagnostic leads. That is why a kerb works as well as a workshop bench for cutting a blade, matching a chip to the immobiliser, or stripping and rebuilding an ignition barrel.

What varies is the immobiliser. A bike with no chip in the key is a mechanical job and is usually straightforward. Honda H.I.S.S., Kawasaki KIPASS, BMW Keyless Ride, Ducati Hands-Free and the factory-fitted transponder immobilisers on Yamaha, Suzuki, KTM and Vespa each pair keys their own way, and some model years need steps others do not. That is decided by make, model and year, which is why Michael confirms them on the phone before anyone travels.

Cutting a blade with no key to copy

With no key left to copy, the blade is cut to the bike's own lock rather than duplicated. That can mean reading the ignition barrel, the seat lock or the fuel cap lock, all of which we can do beside the bike.

Matching a chip to the immobiliser

A cut blade turns the barrel, but a chipped bike still will not start until the transponder is accepted and the ECU drops the immobiliser block. That electronic step happens on site with programming equipment, not at a bench.

Ignition barrels and steering locks

A seized barrel, a snapped key wedged in the wafers or a steering lock that will not release can be stripped, repaired or replaced where the bike stands. Forcing it first with pliers usually turns a small job into a bigger one.

Where we stop and call it mechanical

If the bike cranks on a key the immobiliser accepts, the problem has moved past locks and keys. We are locksmiths, not mechanics or auto electricians, so batteries, wiring, starter motors, coils and fuel systems are for your workshop.

Worth knowing: Power and light are not a problem at the roadside. What decides a job is the immobiliser on your exact make, model and year, which is why Michael confirms it on the phone before travelling.

What the Mobile Service Covers, and What It Does Not

Clear boundaries save everyone a wasted trip, so here is exactly where the mobile service starts and stops.

What we do not do

BEFORE WE ARRIVE

Have This Ready Before We Arrive

A few minutes of preparation while you wait removes almost all of the delay at your end. Get these together before we pull up.

Have this ready: If the bike is not registered in your name, say so on the phone. There is usually a way through it, but it has to be sorted before Michael travels, not once he is standing beside the bike.

COMPATIBILITY

Places We Ride Out To, Not Just Suburbs

Brand and immobiliser detail lives on our key programming page; what matters here is the spot your bike is standing in. These are the location types we work in most, on Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW, Ducati, KTM, Vespa and others.

Roadside, bike lanes and nature strips
Home driveways, front kerbs and rear laneways
Apartment basements and boom-gated car parks
Shopping centre and multi-storey car parks
Workplace and staff car parks across the CBD
Beach and foreshore car parks, St Kilda to Brighton
Train station and commuter bike bays
Storage units, sheds and shared garages

Mobile Motorcycle Locksmith FAQs

We come to you. Ostan Locksmiths is mobile only: there is no shop, no workshop and no address to bring the bike to. Michael travels to wherever it is standing, whether that is a driveway in Port Melbourne, a basement bay in Southbank or the kerb where it stopped. Nothing needs towing, pushing or trailering first.

We work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week, so evenings and weekends are ordinary calls rather than exceptions. Outside those hours we are not available, and we would rather say that plainly than claim to be open around the clock. When you ring, Michael tells you the soonest he can genuinely get to you, based on where he is and what is already booked.

Yes. A street number is ideal but rarely necessary. A cross street, the shop you are standing outside, a car park level and bay, the nearest park gate or a building name all work fine. Drop a pin on your phone and read out the coordinates if you would rather. Stay with the bike if it is safe to, and keep your phone on in case Michael needs to confirm the spot.

Most key and lock work finishes on the spot: cutting a blade with no original present, programming a transponder key to the immobiliser, freeing a snapped key, and repairing or replacing an ignition barrel, steering lock or seat lock. What can hold a job up is an unusual immobiliser on a particular model year, which is why the make, model and year are confirmed on the phone first.

Albert Park, St Kilda, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne, North Melbourne and Brighton are the core patch, and we cover greater Melbourne beyond that. Rather than list every suburb, call with yours. Michael will tell you straight away whether it is one for him, confirm a price before travelling, and tell you the soonest he can get there.

Get yourself and the bike somewhere safe and visible, off the traffic lane and out of a driveway if you can. Do not attack a snapped key or a seized barrel with pliers, a screwdriver or lubricant spray, because that usually damages the wafers and turns a straightforward job into a barrel replacement. Have your ID and registration papers out and keep your phone on.
